Nigeria’s national electricity grid collapsed on Wednesday, causing widespread power outage across the country.
Data from the Independent System Operator (ISO), showed that power generation dropped sharply from 2,917.83 megawatts (MW) to 1.5MW between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), in a statement, confirmed the incident, citing a loss of supply from the grid at 11:23 am.
AEDC stated that the power outage currently experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas.
The company added that efforts were ongoing with relevant stakeholders to restore power once the grid is stabilized.
